Beer of the World Guatemala

Moza Bock- Cervecería Centro Americana S.A. Guatemala City, Guatemala –Self-described as a Cerveza Oscura, this beer is fairly bright although that is difficult to distinguish because of its very dark mahogany color. It’s topped by a quick forming rocky tan head which appears to collapse just as rapidly as it formed. Caramel and dark fruit define the aroma. There’s a bit of dark caramel and the flavor is almost, but not quite that of chocolate. A soft spice and grassy trait makes a brief appearance then disappears. Mouthfeel is almost,

Beers of the World – Boston Lager

Sam Adams Boston Lager – One of the first craft style beers, it’s in the general style of a German Lager, bright Amber\orange and topped by a light cream colored head. Boston Lager greets you with a caramel sweetness and a gentle aroma of noble hops leads to a malty flavor complemented by a low, hoppy, spicy character and medium body. The finish begins moderately sweet then turns medium dry. It pairs more readily with food than more hoppy  beers such as IPA’s. Sample beers like Sam Adams at Zoo

A Beaver Walks into a Bar

Last Friday (July 29th) a Beaver calmly walked into the Yew Tree Pub in Norton Canes, Staffordshire, England. Strolling through the Bar, it headed out the rear door and into the Beer Garden. Beavers, extinct in the UK for over 400 years, have only been reintroduced to the country in the last decade, but none were released anywhere near the Pub. If a Beaver is confident enough to seek out a pint, it must be a sure sign the reintroduction program is a success. There have been no Beavers sightings

Budweiser up for sale?

Not the AB-InBev American-style Budweiser, but rather the Czech Budweiser. The Bud brewed in the Czech Republic is owned by the government and includes rights to the name there. Here Anheuser-Busch won the rights to the name in the American market (above the Panama Canal) in 1939. Elsewhere the use of the name remains in dispute with over 150 cases filed over the years, about 50 remain active. What would cause the Czechs to sell? A recent court case against the company (not beer related) resulted in a judgement owed

Mahomes Finds a Loophole

NFL players are not allowed to endorse alcoholic beverages. Although retired players can sign on with a brewery, seltzer, cider or spirits, active players can not do so under their NFL players agreement. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes appears to have found a legal loophole; instead of endorsing a beer he’s endorsed “The Coors Light” a flashlight that ‘feels cold as the Rocky Mountains’. Reports are  the flashlights sold out in less than four hours. ZOO BREW, August 12, 2022, the Idaho Falls ZOO at Tautphaus Park.
