On March 28, 1836, Frederick Pabst was born. During his original career as a Great Lakes steamboat skipper he met and subsequently married Maria Best. His new bride was the daughter of Phillip Best, a famous brewer in Milwaukee. A year later Phillip convinced his new son-in-law to join the brewery. Later, after assuming leadership of the brewery, Frederick changed its name to “Pabst”.
