Updates on Checks to Non-profits

On December 14, during Santa Crawl, the North American Brewers Association announced their total 2019 fundraising. Presentation checks totaling $ 164,821.02 were presented during a ceremony at MarCellars, downtown Idaho Falls. Receiving checks this year were Breaking Boundaries, Hospice of Eastern Idaho, Community Youth in Action and many others. The NABA also announced it will increase three scholarships to $ 2,000 each in 2020. Craft Breweries at All Time High

The Brewers Association of Boulder, Colorado has announced that the number of Craft Breweries in the United States has hit a record high. Ballast Point sold to Kings and Convicts

Constellation Brands announced it has sold its Ballast Point brand and associated breweries to Kings and Convicts of Chicago. Originally Constellation bought Ballast Point for 1 Billion (with a B) with annual sales of about 400,000 barrels. That production has dropped more than half and the reported sale to the Chicago group is rumored to be a mere 100 Million. New Belgium and Magnolia sell to Kirin’s Lion group

New Belgium and Magnolia have agreed to a buyout by Kirin Brewing’s Lion group. For Magnolia’s owner Dick Cantwell this is the second time he’s been involved with selling his craft brewery to a big brewer. The first was the sale of Elysian to Anheuser-Busch Inbev. This Day in Beer History

On this day in 1989 Anchor released a Steam Beer that was brewed on the day of the 1989 Earth Quake (October 17th). To commemorate the event Anchor released that batch of Steam Beer with the label upside down.

1644 BEER TAX

On this day in 1644 the citizens of New Amsterdam (later New York) rose to a state of near rebellion in protest of an increased tax on beer. At the time the settlers knew beer was safe to drink while water was questionable. Thus, beer was a necessity and the tax was an abomination.

This Day in Beer History

On October 25, 1909 a Boiler explosion rocked the Pabst Brewery of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It injured several employees, destroyed three floors of the brewery and caused $ 250,000 worth of damage.
